Special LGBT+ pedestrian traffic lights were installed for London Pride 2016 following the similar initiative in Vienna during Eurovision 2015.
The 50 signs were not quite enough to cover the entire set of lights around Trafalgar Square, hence those the furthest away from the square at the top end of Whitehall were not fitted (except those leading to the King Charles traffic island).
As the example above shows the seven signs consisted of three couples and four LGBT+ symbols.
The signs depicting people were a little difficult to see especially from a distance due to the heart symbol central between each figure, it made each of the three signs look rather similar.

At red all the signs depicted a male figure. Somehow it seemed it was radiating anger and is perhaps one reason only the green signals were changed – unlike Vienna in 2015 where they used both red and green signals.
The symbols used were brilliant too. The four types used at Trafalgar Square are shown next.
The last two photos (bottom right hand corner) show the only LGBT+ lights in Whitehall are those which lead to the King Charles island – and where a tourist is seen taking a picture.
It may not be noticed however some of the signals are on simultaneously. This picture shows the instant where both stop and go lights are on at the same time!
